For as long as I can remember, I’ve been able to write about complex topics in ways that are easy to read and understand. It’s a skill that’s served me well.
I started my career as a newspaper reporter with a daily newspaper in New Jersey. From there, I went to a Philadelphia business weekly. That experience taught me many things but the most important lesson I learned was how to tell a story.
I know how to find the story that matters most to your customers. It’s the story that tells them how you can help them solve their problems. And it’s the story that creates a connection between you and your community.
A Career Shift to Marketing
After several years as a reporter, I went to work at a prominent public relations agency. I specialized in business-to-business and technology accounts. That’s where I learned to take complex topics and write about them in ways that anyone can understand.
I’ve worked at large and small agencies, and with clients of all types, including:
- Mars Electronics International (MEI), the electronics division of Mars, Inc.
- Marriott Hotels and Resorts
- Scott Paper Company
- A large health system
- A UK-based company that produced educational events for pharmaceutical companies
A Focus on Healthcare
In 2002, I joined the in-house advertising department at Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), a Fortune 500 company that is one of the largest hospital management companies in the nation.
During my time at UHS, I wrote:
- Print advertising
- Print collateral
- Radio and television commercials
- Annual reports
- Benefits handbooks
- Newsletters and magazines
- Website copy
- And more
I left UHS and became director of digital marketing at Crozer-Keystone Health System. That system is in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and includes:
- Four hospitals
- Surgery and oncology centers
- Urgent care centers
- Physician practices
The experience I gained in that position includes:
- Content marketing
- Video marketing
- Email marketing
- Paid search advertising on Google and Bing
- Pay-per-click advertising
- Social media marketing
- YouTube marketing
