Radio is one of my favorite media to work in. Here are just a few of the many radio spots I have written and produced.
Public Affairs
A hospital system in Las Vegas faced ongoing public criticism that was generated by a union that was trying to organize nurses there. To counter the negative campaign and prevent it from having an impact on the system’s reputation in the community, I developed a series of radio commercials that aired on popular radio stations during morning and evening drive time. In some cases, the radio spots were a direct refutation of claims made in the negative campaign against the system, and in other cases, they stressed positive stories about the system.

Childbirth
Maternity services are an important service line for many hospitals. Where to give birth to a child is an important decision for any woman. At the same time, childbirth often marks the first opportunity for a hospital or health system to begin a relationship with a young family that has not had much need for healthcare services until now.

When a new hospital opened in Florida, a well-known college basketball announcer who lives in the area agreed to record a radio commercial for us. I wrote a script for him but he decided to just paraphrase it in his own words. He did three takes, said “You’ve got what you need” and left. An engineer and I took the three takes and pieced together this radio commercial, line-by-line. Sometimes we had to take a single word from one take and insert it into a partial sentence from a different take. When we were done, the celebrity reviewed and approved the spot and it ran during drive time on several stations.
